Biography

Hitoshi Kanoh received B.S., M.S. degree in science and Ph.D. degree in computer science from University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 1978, 1980, and 1992, respectively.

In 1980, He joined Hitachi Cable, Ltd. where he has been engaged in R and D of expert systems, fuzzy systems and neural networks as a section chief. In 1993 he moved to the Institute of Information Sciences and Electronics, University of Tsukuba. He currently is an associate professor with the Department of Computer Science, Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering, University of Tsukuba. His main research interests include genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, and soft computing with special application to intelligent transportation systems.

Dr. Kanoh is a member of IEEE, the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, and Information Processing society of Japan. He received the best paper award from the Institute of electrical Engineers of Japan, the best paper and presentation award from the World Conference on Soft Computing in Industrial Applications, and the best paper and presentation award from the Intelligent Transport Systems, Information Processing society of Japan, in 1992, 1999, and 2003, respectively.
